COAST GUARD RESPONDS TO BOAT FIRE
SAN DIEGO -- Coast Guard Sector San Diego received notification of the pleasure craft “Catalina” on fire in the vicinity of Point Loma, Calif., at 12:18 p.m. today.
Coast Guard Station San Diego, San Diego Lifeguards and San Diego Harbor Police responded.
All four people who were aboard the boat were wearing their jackets and jumped off the boat. They were quickly recovered by a Good Samaritan boat who then transferred them to a Coast Guard rescue boat from Station San Diego. The four people were in good condition and not in need of medical attention.
The Crew form Station San Diego transported the four people to San Diego Harbor Island Police docks.
A commercial salvage company towed the boat to the San Diego Harbor Police docks.
The Coast Guard strongly advises boaters to wear their life jacket and ensure their safety equipment is in good working condition. Accidents can happen with terrifying speed and it’s important to know what steps to take to be safe while out on the water.
