3:15 p.m. — Search and Rescue Group Guam is coordinating a medevac for two male crewmembers in critical condition after being involved in an accident on board an ocean -going bulk carrier.
The accident occurred late last night while the ship was 750 nautical miles north of Saipan, according to a Coast Guard news release.
An Airforce aircraft embarked with four parajumpers will take off from Kadena Air Force Base in Japan to assess the situation and provide urgent medical care.
Saturday evening, when the vessel is 150 nautical miles from Saipan, Guam-based Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 plans to launch two helicopters to hoist the injured crewmembers and fly them to Naval Hospital Guam for urgent care, the news release stated.
Air Force, Coast Guard and Navy personnel are diligently working together to save the lives of these two mariners in dire need, the news release stated.
