NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard medevaced the captain of the bulk carrier motor vessel, Amazonia, near mile marker 72 on the Mississippi River Friday, Oct. 10, 2008.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans received a call at 9:58 p.m., from Coast Guard Sector New Orleans, reporting that the captain of the Amazonia was experiencing cardiac arrest and in critical condition.
Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched a rescue helicopter to the vessel, safely hoisted the captain and transported him to West Jefferson Hospital.
