Ships collide off Oman
A GREEK box ship collided this morning with a Liberia-flagged vessel off the coast of Oman, the Greek ministry of shipping has reported.
Maersk-owned, 81,577dwt Sealand Illinois was en route from Belgium to Dubai when it collided with Sovcomflot-owned, 6,420dwt SCF Tobolsk, which was carrying ammonia to India from Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
The collision took place 75 miles north of Dubai. Both vessels were damaged but no injuries or pollution was reported.
Sealand Illinois remains at the scene, while SCF Tobolsk was diverted to Dubai for inspection and repair.

London, Oct 2 -- Following received from Unicom of Cyprus, dated today: Unicom of Cyprus, managers of Liquid Petroleum Gas Carrier SCF Tobolsk (23003 gt, built 2006), report that this vessel was involved in a collision with fully cellular containership Sea-Land Illinois (74583 gt, built 2000) in the Arabian Gulf during the early hours of this morning. SCF Tobolsk has sustained damage to a ballast tank and in an area above the waterline in the vicinity of the engine-room. There are no injuries to crew and there is no pollution. The vessel was on a voyage from Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, to Kandla, India, with a cargo of ammonia. The collision occurred some 75 miles north-east of Dubai, as the vessel was entering the Straits of Hormuz. There is no leakage of cargo. SCF Tobolsk will divert to Dubai for inspection. Salvage assistance is not required. Sea-Land Illinois remains at the scene. No injuries among this vesselĂ­s crew have been reported to SCF Tobolsk. Weather on scene is good, with calm sea conditions. (Note -- According to LMIU AIS at 0225, today, SCF Tobolsk was in lat 26 21' 24.93N, long 56 02' 46E, 14.8 nautical miles from Khasab, Oman. Speed 0.9 knots. At 0755, today, Sea-Land Illinois was in lat 26 05' 53.46N, long 55 44' 05.46E, 20.1 nautical miles from Mina Saqr, UAE. Speed 21.6 knots.)
