Two merchant vessels narrowly avoided a collision in the Åland Sea late on Tuesday, an Åland Island Coast Guard report said Wednesday.
Both vessels were sailing south when one started to overtake the other but neglected to keep a safe distance. The ship that was being overtaken had to carry out a violent evasive manoeuvre to avoid being overrun.
The incident is to be investigated by the Finnish authorities.
