Belgian marines rescue 38 shipwrecked Somalis in Gulf of Aden

Brussels, Belgium - A frigate of the Belgian marines rescued 38 Somalis whose boat capsized in the Gulf of Aden while they were heading for Yemen, a Belgian military statement said here Wednesday.From their frigate, the Belgian seafarers launched an outboard canoe of the Zodiac type to rescue the passengers, who were drowning, while an Allouette helicopter was flying over the surroundings.After being rescued on the Zodiac, the Somalis were brought back onboard the frigate Louise-Marie, where they received food and primary care. Eight others were declared missing.The frigate later resumed its way to Yemen, where the survivors were delivered to the local authorities.The frigate is participating in the European naval operation to fight against piracy off the Somali coast.
