Manila September 15, 2009 - Superferry 1 caught fire while berthed at Doña Macapagal, Pier 15, South Harbor, Manila at around 03:55 am, September 15, 2009.
Initial reports received by the Coast Guard Action Center Manila revealed that Port State Control Center received radio call thru VFH channel 16 at around 03:10 am from an unnamed crew of Superferry 1 regarding the fire incident. Immediately, personnel of PSCC alerted PCG personnel at pier 15 and called-up Intramuros Fire Department for immediate fire fighting operations.
The fire was declared under control after forty five minutes of firefighting operations with the help of fire fighters from ATI, Intramuros Fire Department and fire fighters from Brgy. 20 Zone 2, District Tondo, Manila . Crew members of SF2, SF12 and SF9 also helped in the fire operations.
Initial investigation of the fire department disclosed that the fire started at the galley of the said vessel. Further investigation will be conducted by Arson personnel of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Intramuros Fire Department.
